Bridal Jewelry and Wedding Gifts

There is a lot to think about when planning a wedding! Fine jewelry is the perfect gift for the bride and groom to show their appreciation to members of the wedding party and special guests. The sentiment of jewelry can be cherished for years to come. The Maid of Honor and Best Man traditionally are given personalized, meaningful gifts. You have the choice to give the same gifts to members of the wedding party or to personalize gifts. Parents and grandparents are also given gifts. Here are some ideas for bridal jewelry and gifts, including some non-jewelry gifts.

Bridal Jewelry
Bridal jewelry has become an important part of the wedding ensemble. While a wedding dress might be worn only for the special day, wedding jewelry can be a keepsake with daily appeal. In addition, fine jewelry can become an heirloom for future generations. Pearls are a bridal classic. Genuine and fine glass faux pearls are available over a wide range of colors and prices to fit any budget. If you are choosing pearls, be aware that pearls can be hard to match if not purchased as a set. In addition to pearls, crystals are extremely popular for wedding jewelry. When choosing a necklace, keep in mind the neckline of your wedding dress. Recently, brides have been incorporating anklets into the wedding ensemble, sometimes with dangling balls or tinkling bells. In addition to pearls or crystals, you may want to add 'something blue' (crystals, blue topaz, aquamarine, sapphire) or include the wedding colors in your jewelry. Beaded tiaras and elaborate hair jewelry are also very popular. If you can't find the perfect jewelry, there are many jewelry designers who will work with you to create the perfect pieces for your special day.

Bridesmaid Jewelry
Bridesmaid jewelry makes a great gift because it can be used to help coordinate the 'look' of the wedding party. Necklace, bracelet, and earring ensembles are popular, in pearls or crystals or in beads that coordinate with the wedding colors. If you are considering necklaces, bracelets, or anklets for bridesmaids, please be reminded that women are not one-size-fits-all for jewelry! Also, notice whether or not a bridesmaid has pierced ears. Perfume atomizers, frames, lockets, compacts, or decorative boxes offer additional gift options.

Bride and Groom Gifts
In addition to the exchange of rings, there may be an exchange of gifts between the bride and groom. A fine watch, engraved with a special message, is a classic gift for the groom. A locket, necklace, or pair of earrings makes a nice choice for a bride. Heirloom jewelry is always an appropriate gift. Bride and groom gifts are intimate and special, so select a present that will hold significance to your spouse.

Parent and Grandparent Gifts
Lockets, watches, and picture frames are all excellent choices for parents and grandparents. Of course, one of the best gifts will be wedding portraits!

Wedding Party Gift Ideas

  • Maid of Honor / Best Man
It is traditional to give the Maid of Honor and Best Man a gift that is a little 'extra' in recognition for their hard work in making the big day a success. Consider classic cultured pearl stud earrings, a sterling silver or gold bracelet, or, for a very special maid of honor, a small diamond solitaire necklace. Good choices for the best man include a classic dress watch or a stylish cufflink set.

  • Attendants
In addition to bridesmaids, many brides have personal attendants to help them dress and prepare for the wedding. It is traditional to recognize attendants by giving small gifts. A pair of pearl earrings is a thoughtful gift, and need not be expensive.

  • Groomsmen
Possible gifts for groomsmen include engraved key rings, pens, cufflinks, tie clips, or money clips. To some extent, the type of gift depends on the level of formality of the wedding and the number of groomsmen involved. Gifts for groomsmen need not be expensive, but should be either useful items or small keepsakes.

  • Ushers
The same gift ideas for groomsmen apply to ushers. Wine glass charms are also a good choice.

  • Flower Girl/Ring Bearer
A tiny flower charm is a delightful gift for a flower girl. Other ideas include a stretch bracelet with beads, such as pearls or crystals, that complement the bride's jewelry, or perhaps a beaded ID bracelet. A beaded flower, perhaps as a hair accessory, is another wonderful keepsake for a flower girl. While the ring bearer might not want jewelry, he would appreciate a music box, box of candy, or personalized item, such as a tee shirt. A craft kit, movie ticket, or book offer additional options.

  • Guests
Wine glass rings, which are little beaded rings with charms to identify wine glasses, are popular favors for weddings. These are appropriate gifts at a rehearsal dinner or reception. A wonderful non-jewelry gift is a disposable camera!
